F1 to H1 2 Years, 4 Months ago  
Previously transferred from H1 to F1, now transfer back. Two questions:

How long it usually takes?
Can I work after submit the petition or have to wait until approved?

I think you should file your H-1B application by paying extra $1000, then you will get the approval notice within 15 days before you start to work. Xielaw is good at this...
